What's Distinctive About Space & Treasure Coast

This stretch of Florida's east coast is known for its retiree communities, waterfront neighborhoods and a mix of older single-family homes alongside newer coastal development. Manufactured and mobile home communities are more common here than in some other regions, which brings its own set of entry-point considerations around skirting and under-home access. Coastal humidity and waterfront landscaping keep outdoor species like palmetto bugs a regular part of life here, and the region's aging housing stock in some established neighborhoods means moisture-related issues (older plumbing, aging AC systems) are worth particular attention.

The Indian River Lagoon

The Indian River Lagoon runs almost the full length of this coast, and homes on both the mainland and the barrier islands sit next to seawalls, mangroves and damp shoreline. American cockroaches live along those edges and in storm drains, then come inside through garages and plumbing gaps at night. Keeping drain covers tight, garage seals in good shape and outdoor lights low and warm-toned limits how many make it indoors.

Space-Era Homes and Seasonal Residents

Much of Brevard County was built quickly in the 1960s for the space program, and many of those block homes have original jalousie windows, slab cracks and aging plumbing. Sealing those small openings is usually the most effective step. From Daytona to Stuart, seasonal residents close homes for the summer, and closed houses with the air conditioning set high can become humid enough for roaches. A moderate thermostat setting and a neighbor check-in help while owners are away.
